How to verify an agent in Nigeria

The lists of "FIFA agents in Nigeria" that rank on Google today are years old, unverified, and in some cases monetized by the very contact-selling that gets players scammed. You do not need another list. Every sport that licenses agents keeps its own official record, and checking a name there takes a few minutes.

One rule above everything: only the official record counts, never a list or document the agent sends you. Check any agent there before serious talks, and remember that no licensed agent charges a player upfront.

    Worldwide license

    Anyone providing agent services in international transfers must hold a FIFA Football Agent license. FIFA's agents page links to its public directory of every licensed agent.

    Worldwide license

    FIBA licenses the agents who handle international transfers, and its public search lets you look one up by name, nationality or agency.

    Worldwide license

    FIVB licenses the agents allowed to work on international transfers, and publishes the full list of licensed agents with their country.

    The list shows no update date, so confirm with FIVB if a name is missing.

  • American football

    NFLPA

    Pro league only

    There is no worldwide agent license. Agents who negotiate NFL contracts must be NFLPA Certified Contract Advisors, and the NFLPA lets you search them by name.

    Outside the NFL, ask which league or federation the agent is registered with.

No public list: what to do instead

  • Handball

    IHF

    Ask which body issued the license, then contact that federation to confirm it.

    The IHF regulates players' agents and accepts licenses issued by the IHF or a national federation, but publishes no public list of licensed agents.

  • Tennis

    ITF, ATP, WTA

    Check the track record instead: call a named client or their coach, and never pay upfront.

    Tennis has no agent license: the ITF, ATP and WTA do not license or list agents, so a title alone proves nothing.

Before you talk to any agent

  • Get the full legal name and check it yourself in the official record for your sport, linked above.
  • Confirm the person contacting you is the agent, not someone using a real agent's name; ask for a live video call.
  • Any upfront payment request, for registration, processing or travel, ends the conversation.
  • Verify the track record with one phone call to a named client or their club.
  • Never send passport scans or original documents during introductions.

How do I check if a football agent in Nigeria is FIFA licensed?

Ask for the full legal name and check it through FIFA's official agents pages and the FIFA Agent Platform records, then cross-check locally with the Nigeria Football Federation. Never rely on lists or documents the agent supplies; the official record is the only proof.

Will a licensed agent sign me?

Someone claiming to be a licensed agent contacted me and asked for money. What do I do?

Stop responding; that is not how licensed agents work, and name-borrowing is a known scam pattern. Verify through FIFA's records and a live video call if you want certainty, keep the messages as evidence, and report to the NFF and the police where money was requested.
